This event took place on 31st July with staff taking the ultimate challenge in to climb this amazing mountain in order to raise money for Julia's House a charity that cares for children with life threatening conditions.

Before the climb the team of 16 people had to under go a major training regime which consisted of a 70km, 5-day hike, which ended with a 15km night hike by torch light, and hours of acclimatization on an altitude simulator.

Mount Kilimanjaro is situated in Tanzania and is about 340km south of the equator. It is both the tallest mountain in Africa and the world’s highest free-standing mountain. The highest point is at 19340ft which the team successfully reached after 8 days of challenging climbing in extreme altitude.

The team had to suffer some of the worst conditions on the day they climbed to the summit with most of them suffering with sleep deprivation and headaches. They had to encounter 75 mph winds and minus 24 temperatures but battled on to make it to the top.

The team raised over £10,000 for the Julia’s House. The money raised will go towards improving the over-night stay facilities at the house, as they open their doors to children with life-limiting conditions at night as well as during the day giving care and support.
